If you are the type of person that has a green thumb and always spend a lot of time in the garden, you might be aware that there are different types of tree loppers that you can use. Tree loppers are designed to trim the very top part of a tree’s branches. When choosing a lopper, you must first identify the type of trees that you have in your home to make sure that the lopper is compatible with the type of task you need to do. Majority of gardeners do not give a lot of thoughts into choosing the lopper they need and only purchase the first thing they see on the local store without doing further research. First thing any gardener should know is that there are two different kinds of tree loppers – bypass loppers and anvil loppers. Under these types are different kinds of loppers that differ in style, size as well as the shape of the handles and blades. There are loppers that have handles that can be extended but it is not always ideal.
- Bypass Loppers. For amateur gardeners, this is the most common type of lopper that you will see them use. Anyone who has a pair of shears in their garden has the most basic kind of bypass lopper. The basic bypass lopper has two poles equipped with handles on one end while the other hand contains the blade. The handles are put together in an X shape and each blade can be moved by the respective handle. These are called two-handed style and it is able to cut the branch of the tree by placing each blade on the each side of the branch while moving the handles apart from each other. The blades can be tightened using the fulcrum which is also used when there are trapped parts in between blades.
- Anvil loppers. This resembles the bypass loppers because it has handle on one end but the difference is the blade because it only has one cutting edge. It is so-called an anvil because you don’t cut the branch but rather you hammer it apart. The branch is pressed by the cutting side onto the blunt edge which damages the branch and cuts it in the process.
If you don’t have any experience in using any of these cutters, it is best to leave the job to professional tree loppers in Perth.
