he world has recently celebrated Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day in honor of this convenient packaging material. Bubble wraps are a very common material and it is almost impossible for people not to know of it. Once in every people’s life, they had probably got obsessed with the bubble wraps that come along inside certain packages. Unfortunately, although people enjoy popping bubble wraps, most of them know next to nothing about it other than it is irresistibly hard to refrain from popping them.
Have you ever wondered where this packaging material had come from or who were the people who first made them? Well, you are about to find out a whole lot more about them starting with their history.
The idea of bubble wraps was first conceived in the late 50s but not in the way you are thinking. Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, who were both engineers, had come up with the idea of bubble wraps to be used as textured wallpaper. They first sealed two shower curtains together and trapped layers of bubbles between them. Unfortunately, bubble wraps did not work well as textured wallpaper. The good thing though, was that Chavannes had come up of a great way to use it while on board a flight where it seemed like the descending plane is being cushioned by the layers of clouds. Since then, bubble wraps have been used for a different purpose.
Bubble wraps, in today’s modern age, plays an important role in delivering packages. This material does not get to deliver the packages but they are used to cushion the valuable product inside. Most of the packages delivered to people owe their safety to these wonderful creations of Fielding and Chavannes.
The soft bubbles provides effective covering and cushioning to fragile materials such as glass, ceramics, plastics and other kinds of material products.
Though bubble wraps are mainly used in package and delivery, they also play a role in relieving stress and annoying people.
Studies show that when people pop the synthetic bubbles in the bubble wraps, their stress levels go down. Unfortunately, the sounds of popping and the friction between finger and plastic can be quite annoying for the people who get to hear them.
Then there is also the fact that bubble wraps are now being used to create many different forms of colorful artworks.
Whatever the case, bubble wraps have proven to be a convenient tool.
